Joe Norton is a Licensing Representative for Music Theatre International, as well as a published playwright, and a teaching artist.

As a Producer and then the Director of Education & Outreach for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, he developed programs to raise money and awareness in school theatre departments ranging from middle schools to colleges all across the country. He has been an actor, playwright and producer for various companies in New York City. Joe has been a featured speaker for the annual Stage The Change conference, as well as for the American Association of Community Theatre conference, the Montana Theatre Educator’s Conference, and the Theatre for Public Health forum at NYU.

A life-long Thespian, Joe served on the governing board of the Educational Theatre Association from 2000-09 and currently serves on the New York Chapter Board. He is a guest artist and adjudicator at Thespian festivals from coast to coast. He is the recipient of EdTA’s Standing Ovation Award (2006) and President’s Award (2007), as well as NYSTEA’s Artist Recognition Award (2013) and the Florida Association for Theatre Education’s Outstanding Arts Advocate Award (2015).

Joe is also a member of NYSTEA, TDF, Theatre Communications Group, the Dramatists Guild and The Playwrights Center.

As a playwright: Joe’s one act School Night is published through Playscripts, Inc (honorable mention, 2010 Fresh Fruit Festival, NYC), and his play The Truing was selected by NYIndieTheatreNow as one of the best plays of the 2014 NYC Fringe Festival. Other plays include:Room, Coffee Box, Jetty, Ferry, The Jalapeno Thief, and The Moonachie Man. His plays have been produced in NYC, California, Nebraska and Scotland.

Joe holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from Goddard College. He lives in NYC with his husband, Jason, and their Siberian husky, Ace the wonder dog.
