The Fantasticks

The Fantasticks
There's always time to remember this romantic fable about a boy, a girl, their two fathers and a love that grows with each season.

"Try To Remember" a time when this romantic charmer wasn't enchanting audiences around the world. The Fantasticks is the longest-running musical in the world and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.

The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, and their two fathers who try to keep them apart. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo's words that, "without a hurt, the heart is hollow."

With its minimal costumes, small band and virtually nonexistent set, The Fantasticks is an intimate show that may be performed in virtually any space, engaging the audience's imagination and showcasing a strong ensemble cast. Its moving tale of young lovers who become disillusioned, only to discover a more mature, meaningful love is punctuated by a bountiful series of catchy, memorable songs, many of which have become classics.

Is it possible to buy a separate harp part?
I play this show a lot and would love to have a copy of the part for myself to keep track of my markings. Can you only rent the part? I've looked online, and can only find the piano/vocal book.

New "Rape" number in the show...
I would love to produce this musical in my local community theater, but there is no way that we can deal with the "rape" word in songs, etc. I read an article in which the St. Louis Repertory Theater was able to obtain different lyrics and different dialogue leading up to this point of the play. Do you have those alterations or are they available if we were to produce this play?

Looking to find out if anyone has performed The Fantasticks with the full orchestration; what that entails and how it sounded.
I'm directing a production next year in a space that I think will lend itself to a bigger sound, but want to know in advance if it is worth it.

alternate orchestrations for Fantasticks
Hi- A group I work with is considering doing a production of the Fantasticks in 2017 or 2018 in Kensington Maryland (I would be the music director). I am curious to learn more about the alternate orchestrations listed on your website. How much additional would they cost above the usual rental fee??? Also, is there any recording of these orchestrations to hear what they would sound like? Thank you. Stuart Y. Weich
